An American in Australia - An Australian in America

Spot the AustralianLife’s full of oddities.  Turns out in a parallel universe there’s an Australian trying to adjust to life in America.  I blog about the reverse issue - as an American in Australia, once in awhile you come across “Things that make you go hmmm.”

So I got introduced today to Paul Young.  He’s from Sydney and is now in Manhattan.  He blogs on issues of interest to public relations professionals and students.  Check out his blog

It’ll be interesting to track his experiences and see how he navigates the rocky shoals of Manhattan!

Hi Wally,

I lived in Sydney five years until 2006 and never wanted to return to America, but had to because I never got around to doing the paperwork for permanent residency. I am currently working for CGFNS International in Philadelphia as an Art Director/Web Designer and Developer. We verify the credentials of nurses schooled abroad.

I so want to return that I am considering a long shot, getting a degree in nursing. It’s not a guarantee. I am over 45, so it’s very difficult to come back without an employer sponsor, and getting up the cash to come over and THEN look for jobs is not something I can do.

I still have my Westpac accounts.

I have found since my return to the US that I am truly more Australian minded than US minded, but then I fell in love with Australia right from the start and worked on assimilation. I had a partner there at the time who pushed me to learn as much as possible. I could take a citizenship test right now!

P.S. my web site is not updated with accomplishments from my current job.

cheers and good luck to you,
Nancy
